Increasing Non-State actors Implementation and Development Expertise (EU-INSIDE)

Increasing Non-state actors’ Implementation and Development Expertise (EU-INSIDE) programme of the European Union (EU) was a project that was launched in early 2010 as part of activities to implement the EU/FGN €20M Financing Agreement to assist Non-State Actors (NSAs) that are fostering pro-poor policy, enhanced service delivery and transparent governance, at State and Local Government level, to increase their effectiveness and impact. The objective of the programme was to help build structures that could tackle poverty effectively, assisting Nigerians to attain the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) and to strengthen democratisation.

This activities that were implemented under this noble project helped to attain poverty reduction and service delivery enhancement projects – self-help initiatives, local government budgetary planning and prioritization, budget implementation monitoring, wealth creation groups' initiatives, environmental management programmes, safe water use and conservation programmes and all aspects of democratization.

RWF was one of the implementing organisations that signed a contract with EU-INSIDE team to implement this project in four communities in Imo and Abia states with the broader objective of contributing to help build structures that can alleviate poverty, assist youth and women to obtain gainful employment and strengthen structures for peace and security in the four selected communities. The specific objectives for this ‘Empowerment for Peace and Security Program’ (EPSP) project included: empowering 500 youths and women from the 4 communities, empowering 300 youths and women from the 4 communities with income generating activities, sensitizing and training 2000 youths on conflict prevention and resolution, formation of 3 youth initiatives and 3 women groups, establishing partnerships with two oil companies, establishing one parent body with 3 structures/branches in the communities which were called “Ambassadors for Peace and printing / publishing RWF Quarterly Electronic Newsletters and fliers.
